Time Warner Cable Remote / Guide App Coming To Android At End Of November, Live Streaming On Ice Cream Sandwich Tablets Early 2012

Likely not wanting to get left behind by the likes of Comcast, whose XFINITY for Android app has been quite well-received, Time Warner Cable is preparing to release a comparable remote control app for its cable subscribers at the end of November.
The app will incorporate full set-top box remote control functionality, access to the DVR interface, and an in-app 7-day programming guide.

The app is being developed for Honeycomb tablets (the test device looks to be a Galaxy Tab 8.9 or 10.1), and TWC has indicated that it's possible the release could be pushed back a little beyond November because of a heavy product release schedule this season. The Time Warner Untangled blog listed out some of the major features of the app as well:

• Interactive Program Guide (IPG) – a complete IPG experience, with 7 days of program listings including full program description
• Remote Control of STB –the ability to use the Android tablet as a set-top box remote control, choosing a program from the grid guide and tuning the MDN or ODN STB to the selected channel.
• DVR Manager – the ability to remotely program MDN or ODN DVRs with capabilities similar to the current web & mobile Remote DVR Manager product

Video is obviously something users are going to want, too, but it sounds like that's something they'll have to wait for. The app will be able to deliver live streaming cable content after "the release of Ice Cream Sandwich in the first few months of 2012," presumably indicating older non-ICS tablets won't be getting the feature at all.
